Adam Schiff, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 30th district, recently addressed potential conflicts of interest involving Elon Musk in a series of tweets. Schiff has been serving in Congress since 2001 after succeeding James E. Rogan and has previously served in the California Senate.
On February 11, 2025, Adam Schiff tweeted about sending a letter to the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) regarding Elon Musk's potential conflicts of interest. "This morning, I sent a letter to the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) regarding @elonmusk's potential conflicts of interest." He noted that the White House confirmed receipt within minutes and that President Trump subsequently fired the Director of OGE by noon on the same day. Schiff questioned whether this action was intended to prevent an answer from being given.
In another tweet posted on February 11, 2025, Schiff shared details about his letter concerning Musk’s status as a government employee and compliance with conflict-of-interest laws. "This is the letter I sent." He expressed concern over what he perceives as Trump's "purges," stating that accountability is owed to the American people.
Later on February 11, 2025, Schiff posed a question to his Republican colleagues via Twitter: "To my Republican colleagues – where do you draw the line with Donald Trump?"
