U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, has filed legislation calling for U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff's expulsion from Congress. Her resolution follows the recent release of the Durham Report which condemns the FBI's investigation into alleged collusion between former President Donald Trump and Russia. 

On May 17, Luna filed House Resolution 412 which calls for the expulsion of Schiff from the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution calls for the expulsion pursuant to Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 of the Constitution, which says “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

"Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intel to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars," Luna wrote in a May 17 Twitter post. "He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives." 

Schiff’s response on Twitter included a calling for people to stand with him against “extreme MAGA forces” and added a link to the donation site for his campaign for Senate in 2024.

"A MAGA Republican has filed a motion to expel me from Congress," Schiff wrote in his tweet. "When this chapter is written, it will record: When Republicans lacked the courage to stand up to the most unethical president in history, they consoled themselves by attacking those who did. I’m not backing down."

Luna's resolution was filed just days after the release of the Durham Report which slammed the FBI and its investigation into former president Donald Trump’s supposed collusion with Russia. According to the Washington Post, the Durham Report showed multiple failings of the FBI during the course of its investigation and contained nothing condemning Trump as many had hoped. 

Schiff is the former chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Luna has criticized his use of this position as an abuse of power and a betrayal of trust with the American people. Schiff has been a long time opponent and critic of Trump. He points out on his bio page that he “led the House impeachment inquiry and served as the Lead Impeachment Manager during the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. He also served a member of the January 6th Select Committee.”
