Los Angeles Valley College issued the following announcement on Nov. 14

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Charitable Trust awarded the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Foundation a $40,000 grant to create a new Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship Program for Cinema/Media Arts and Broadcast Television students.

“We are honored to receive this grant from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association supporting our film and television students,” said Dr. Barry Gribbons, president of Los Angeles Valley College. “This new program will help foster the next generation of diverse filmmakers and storytellers, as well as supporting the local entertainment industry’s workforce.”

Throughout the 2020-21 academic year, the Fellowship Program will provide more than 30 LAVC Cinema/Media Arts and Television Broadcasting students with scholarships to support their continued education and academic success. The grant also establishes a new Endowed Hollywood Foreign Press Association Scholarship with the Los Angeles Valley College Foundation, creating a new annual scholarship opportunity for Cinema Arts and Television students in perpetuity.

“We have such talented students,” said Eric Swelstad, LAVC Media Arts Department Chair. “This support from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will be transformative for them, providing financial support to ensure they can stay enrolled and achieve their goals as emerging television and film artists.”

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Charitable Trust provides support for educational and cultural non-profit organizations whose primary focus is the entertainment industry, with an emphasis on nurturing the development of young artists in television and film. Funding for Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Charitable Trust Grants is derived income from the Golden Globe Awards. In the past 31 years, the HFPA Trust has bestowed more than $29 million in fellowships and grants to film schools and non-profit organizations.
