Racial Equity Art Project Opportunity in Downtown San Mateo!

0Comments

The City of San Mateo is excited to announce that we are seeking professional and/or emerging artists to complete a Racial Equity Art Project in Downtown San Mateo which will be painted in the center of one or both of the Pedestrian Malls on B Street in Downtown San Mateo.  We are looking for artists to design a painting that represents San Mateo’s diversity and commitment to racial equity.

The artist selection will occur through a multi-phased process. The first step in the process is this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) where we are inviting artists to submit their portfolio of work and their approach to this project. The City’s Civic Arts Committee anticipates choosing five finalists that will receive a $1,000 stipend to develop a proposal, including a rendering of the artwork for the site.

This RFQ is open to all artists, with priority consideration given to those living in or having a relation to the City of San Mateo or San Mateo County. Artists of color and BIPOC, women, LGBTQ++, and members of historically marginalized groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

The deadline to submit an RFQ is Monday, January 23, 2023, and should be submitted to Denise Garcia, Management Analyst, by emailing dgarcia@cityofsanmateo.org. Any questions or concerns should also be addressed to Denise.

Please share this information with others, help us get the word out!
