Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district since 2001, has used his social media platform to address concerns over oil drilling along the California coast and public safety during severe weather.
On November 13, 2025, Schiff posted a warning about the environmental risks associated with expanded oil drilling policies. He stated, “President Trump’s Big Oil agenda prioritizes the profits of giant corporations at the expense of our coastlines. California has suffered greatly from oil spills in the past. We cannot let history repeat itself.” In a follow-up post on the same day, he referenced an opinion piece he authored on this issue: “Recently, I wrote an op-ed detailing how dangerous it would be to allow oil drilling along the coast of California and why it’s crucial that we push back.”
Later that day, Schiff also addressed public safety as a storm approached California. He advised residents to remain alert by saying, “Be sure to check your local weather radar and remain vigilant for any extreme weather warnings as the storm rolls in.”
Schiff’s advocacy is informed by his long tenure in Congress representing California’s 30th District and his previous service in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently residing in Burbank, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
