Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district since 2001, criticized the Trump administration’s expansion and arming of federal immigration agencies in a series of tweets posted on February 19, 2026.
Schiff stated, “Over the past year, the Trump administration hasn’t just embarked on a mass hiring spree to deploy ICE and CBP agents to American cities, they have also been building heavily armed and unaccountable immigration agencies. They have contracted for millions of dollars’ worth of https://t.co/MKUg0eGtEW” (posted February 19, 2026).
He continued by highlighting recent expenditures: “In just one year, ICE and CBP committed to spend more than $144 million in taxpayer dollars on lethal firearms, ammunition, chemical weapons, and more. One such contract is for $9.1 million in assault-style rifles, which could allow ICE to buy thousands of semi-automatic https://t.co/SE382iS71T” (posted February 19, 2026).
Schiff also referenced an incident involving Renee Good in Minneapolis as evidence of the risks associated with heavily arming federal agents: “Americans have already seen the deadly consequences of arming reckless, unqualified, and unaccountable federal immigration agents. But this data proves that DHS isn’t backing down. Less than two weeks after Renee Good was gunned down in Minneapolis, CBP ordered $640,000+ more https://t.co/r2AOQDzSnl” (posted February 19, 2026).
Schiff has served as California’s representative for the 30th district since defeating James E. Rogan in 2001 and previously held office in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and now residing in Burbank at age 62, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
