In one post, Schiff described encounters with individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating: “Many of the people we met with had no criminal record and were showing up for immigration appointments when they were arrested by ICE. Continuing his commentary on oversight and transparency regarding ICE detentions, Schiff wrote: “The American people deserve to know what’s happening inside these walls. We are going to keep conducting oversight of what is happening when a friend, neighbor, or family member is detained by ICE. And we are going to fight to put an end to the administration’s cruel mass” (January 21, 2026).
Later that day, Schiff commented on recent policy changes affecting federal aid programs: “Translation: we cut food assistance programs from millions of Americans.” (January 21, 2026).
Schiff has represented California’s 30th District in Congress since succeeding James E. Rogan in 2001. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently residing in Burbank at age 62, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
