Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district, marked May Day and addressed constitutional issues and military service in a series of posts on social media between May 1 and May 2, 2026.
On May 1, Schiff posted a message in recognition of workers: “This #MayDay, we honor workers here in California and across the country. Let us all continue the fight for better working conditions, fair wages, and the right to organize.”
The following day, he referenced a section of the U.S. Constitution concerning emoluments: ‘”No … Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State”. Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution’ (May 2).
Later that same day on May 2, Schiff acknowledged Major General Matthew Beevers’ service with a note of thanks: “Thank you Major General Matthew Beevers of the California National Guard for your commitment to protecting Californians!”
Schiff has served as California’s representative in Congress since 2001 after succeeding James E. Rogan. He previously held office in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and now residing in Burbank at age 62, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
