Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district, posted a series of tweets on January 20 and 21, 2026, focusing on conditions at the California City Detention Center and expressing concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) practices.
On January 20, Schiff shared a link without additional comment: https://t.co/3urlqZorvI.
The following day, Schiff described his visit to the California City Detention Center with Senator Alex Padilla. In his January 21 tweet, he wrote: “These are just some of the heartbreaking stories @SenAlexPadilla and I heard today at the California City Detention Center. https://t.co/1UA7NXhPxs”.
In another post from the same day, Schiff addressed broader concerns regarding ICE operations: “We have all watched in horror as ICE has engaged in indiscriminate immigration raids, grabbing citizens and noncitizens alike, and often endangering the lives of our neighbors in the process.
But the trauma within ICE detention facilities is unseen, as individuals spend weeks,”.
Schiff has served in Congress since 2001 after replacing James E. Rogan and previously held office in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently residing in Burbank, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
