Adam Schiff, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 30th district, shared his thoughts on various issues via social media on July 4, 2025. Schiff, who has been in Congress since 2001 after succeeding James E. Rogan and previously served in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000, commented on economic concerns and national celebrations.
On July 4, Schiff expressed concerns over rising prices due to tariffs imposed by former President Trump. He noted that these tariffs have increased costs for items typically associated with Independence Day celebrations. “Going shopping for your 4th of July cookout today? Trump’s tariffs are making it a lot more expensive,” he stated, mentioning specific items like beer, beef, and ice cream as examples of products affected by these price hikes.
Later that day, Schiff took a moment to reflect on the significance of Independence Day itself. In his message to the public, he emphasized the importance of remembering that freedoms are not automatically assured and require collective effort to maintain. “Happy 4th! As we celebrate our freedom today – we do so with the reminder that those freedoms are never free,” he remarked.
In another post from Salinas, California, Schiff highlighted the agricultural contributions of local farmers and farmworkers. He noted California’s significant role in celery production and appreciated the opportunity to engage with those who work in agriculture. “Did you know that California produces over 90% of the nation’s celery?” he asked rhetorically while sharing his experiences visiting cilantro and celery fields.
Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently residing in Burbank at age 62, Adam Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
