Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district since 2001, has posted a series of tweets criticizing former President Donald Trump’s recent actions and comments regarding Russia, Ukraine, and media mergers.
On August 16, 2025, Schiff questioned Trump’s reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks about the 2020 U.S. election. In his post, Schiff wrote: “Trump marvels at Putin’s statement that the 2020 election was rigged, and that Trump really won. Can Trump really be so gullible as to think Putin is doing anything more than telling him what he wants to hear? Yes he can. And yes he is.”
The following day, on August 17, Schiff addressed Trump’s stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine: “Just as we feared, Trump has abandoned Ukraine’s position and that of our European allies in favor of an immediate ceasefire, and instead adopted Russia’s position in favor of Ukrainian land for peace. Congress needs to assert itself, and adopt new and more powerful sanctions”.
On August 18, Schiff raised concerns over a recent business decision involving Paramount and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He stated: “The FCC approved Paramount’s merger after the company paid President Trump $16 million and cancelled Stephen Colbert. Did the payoff to Trump or the cancellation of one of his critics play any role in approval of the deal? I’m demanding answers.”
Schiff has served in Congress since replacing James E. Rogan in 2001 and previously held office in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960, Schiff resides in Burbank and holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
