Adam Schiff, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district since 2001, posted a series of tweets on April 16 and 17, 2026, addressing concerns about former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding a Turkish bank case and announcing new legislative efforts to support incarcerated Americans.

On April 16, Schiff wrote: “Donald Trump — who for years has cozied up to Erdogan amidst Turkey’s backsliding democracy — called off a criminal case against a Turkish bank accused of laundering over $20 BILLION for Iran to evade sanctions. We need answers from Trump’s DOJ about this betrayal of American https://t.co/XvBEVi7hhP”.

The following day, Schiff posted two tweets. The first was a link without accompanying text: “https://t.co/QgoIZxALKq” (April 17). In the second tweet from April 17, he stated: “Libraries are critical for incarcerated Americans seeking to get the education and skills they need to successfully reenter society. I’m introducing two bills with @repcleaver to expand library resources and reduce recidivism.”

Schiff has served in Congress since replacing James E. Rogan in 2001 and previously held office in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. He was born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently resides in Burbank at age 62. Schiff is an alumnus of Stanford University (BA, 1982) and Harvard University (JD, 1985).
