The following day, on February 22, 2026, he announced his intention to skip the State of the Union address. He stated, “I won’t attend Trump’s State of the Union on Tuesday. This isn’t business as usual. Here’s what I’ll be doing instead: https://t.co/54GcZdvApP”.
Later that same day, Schiff commented on presidential powers by posting: “A president does not dictate what speech is allowed. A president does not dictate who a company can hire or fire or have sit on their board. A president does not dictate when a merger pleases him and when it does not. Only a dictator does. And we will not allow one in the https://t.co/78on1soGko”.
Schiff has served in Congress since 2001 after replacing James E. Rogan and previously was a member of the California Senate from 1996 to 2000. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and now residing in Burbank, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
