Adam Schiff, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 30th district since 2001, shared a series of posts on his official X account in September 2025 addressing the state of American democracy and ongoing budget negotiations in Congress.
On September 18, Schiff posted: “For all our flaws, all our stumbles, America has always embodied something precious. Something unique. Something worth defending.”
The following day, he commented on the nature of democracy and current political challenges: “Democracy, at it’s best, is an act of faith. But it also takes work. And with a wannabe dictator trying to bend it to his will – that work is going to take all of us.” This post was made on September 19.
Later that same day, Schiff addressed concerns over a potential government shutdown: “Republicans are marching us to the brink of a shutdown – at Trump’s command. Democrats put forward a budget to keep government open and lower health care costs. The GOP said no. They own this crisis and the steep hikes you are about to pay for your healthcare.”
Schiff has been active in national politics for decades, having previously served in the California Senate from 1996 to 2000 before being elected to Congress where he succeeded James E. Rogan in 2001. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1960 and currently residing in Burbank at age 62, Schiff holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
